OS3.9 @ SEAL

20/12/2000

SEAL Member Alf Whitfield has just received the brand new OS 3.9 and has kindly offered to put off installing it on his A4000 so we can show the installation and setup at our meeting on the 22nd of Decemeber.

As you probably know OS3.9 was released by Amiga and Haage and Partner at the recent World of Amiga show in Cologne, Germany. more information on the upgrade is available at their respective websites. Greg Donner has posted an excellent review on his website which covers the improvements. Greg also has an FAQ to help with questions on the upgrade and notes on dealing with a few minor "bugettes" which slipped into the final release.

For those not able to attend the meeting we should have a report available before Christmas.

Our good friends the Huddersfield Amiga User Group are holding their first Amiga show on the 24th of February 2001. The show is being held in Huddersfield and the venue is just off the M62.

SEAL will have a stand at the show where we will be selling the latest issue of Clubbed magazine along with back issues and subscriptions. We are also helping out with the games arena by running one of the competitions. We hope to have a head to head contest using Hyperion's imminent Shogo port. If this isn't out in time we have the fantastic Heretic II as a back up.

For more details including lists of exhibitors, usergroups and other attractions at the show visit HAUG's website at: www.haug.co.uk, apparently there will be a redesigned show website with its own domain name shortly.

We hope to see you at the show!

Kickstart Sale 2000 Report

01/06/2000

Inside the main show hall On Saturday the 27th of May a merry band of about 15 SEAL members set off for Kickstart's third Amiga show held in Ottershaw, Surrey. As usual the show was well attended and several "big name" Amiga vendors were exhibiting their latest products. Hardware was on sale from Eyetech and Analogic who sponsored the show, Fore-Matt Home Computing and Alive Mediasoft were selling a wide range of games and application software. Also in attendance were a couple of smaller vendors selling printer supplies and generic hardware.

Due to the larger number of commercial vendors at the show this year usergroups were relegated to a small room to one side of the hall behind a toilet! In addition to SEAL two ASA and PAG, both from Portsmouth, had tables where they were selling second hand Amiga gear and recruiting new members.

Elliott receiving his prize (well it's in the post!) We took plenty of copies of the new issue of Clubbed with us to the show and despite our out-of-the-way location we sold more copies than last year. A gratifying number of people decided to take out a subscription on the spot and several subscribers renewed their subscription at the show. Altogether we were very pleased with the response to Clubbed, especially as many people took out subscriptions at the show last year and of course were probably there again.

At the end of the show prizes were presented to the winners of the Quake and Max Rally competitions, which had been running throughout the day, and several raffles were drawn. Several great prizes were given away including A1200s and 3.1Gb Hard drives, SEAL's own Elliott Bird won an Amiga Active T Shirt!

Altogether a good day was had by all, our thanks to Kickstart for all their efforts.
